LIHEAP

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded assistance program used to help customers with their home heating needs. The Department of Human Services administers the grant program that do not need to be paid back. If you qualify for these grants, the funds can be applied directly to your Peoples account.

LIHEAP 2024-25 Application Period Extended

The Pennsylvania Department of Health & Human Services (DHS) recently announced that the period to apply for and receive LIHEAP grants has been extended two weeks. Applicants now have until Friday, April 18 to submit LIHEAP applications for consideration. However, LIHEAP funding remains available on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you think you might be eligible and need the aid, don’t delay! Apply today before funds are exhausted.

Homeowners or renters may be eligible to receive LIHEAP funds if your household income does not exceed the following guidelines:

LIHEAP CRISIS - PA

For customers in Pennsylvania, there is a CRISIS option under LIHEAP. Households experiencing a heating crisis may be eligible for additional benefits through LIHEAP.

Emergency situations include:

  • Broken heating equipment or leaking lines that need to be fixed or replaced

  • Lack of fuel

  • The main heating source or secondary heating source (used to operate the main heating source or used if the main heating source is not working) has been completely shut-off

  • Danger of being without fuel (less than a 15 day supply)

  • Danger of having utility service terminated (you've received a notice that service will be shut off within the next 60 days)
