Peoples is committed to making lives better for everyone in our region — the region where our customers and employees live and work. We work hard to keep our communities safe, and we are proud to support the Volunteer Fire Departments that do the same.

To recognize these Volunteer Fire Departments, we are excited to announce a new donation program designed to support them: S.A.F.E.: Sharing Appreciation for Fire Department Excellence. This new donation program is available for the Volunteer Fire Departments in our service territory to help make sure they have the resources they need to protect their communities. Volunteer Fire Departments will be nominated by our employees across our service territory and asked to fill out an application, detailing how a donation from Peoples would be used. Winners will be selected every month for a $2,500 donation from Peoples and will be announced on our social media pages.

Volunteer Fire Departments play an important role in protecting our communities. Many of them are staffed by Volunteer Firefighters who are trained to extinguish hazardous fires that threaten life and the environment, as well as rescue people and animals from dangerous situations. These brave men and women work side by side with Peoples employees in response to emergency situations across our service territory. In many cases, Peoples employees volunteer with their local fire departments, too! With our new S.A.F.E. Program, we hope to give these Volunteer Fire Departments the recognition they deserve, and the resources they need to continue to keep people safe every day.

  • "Share the Love" Poll

    At Peoples, we love to support our communities and the Volunteer Fire Departments that help to keep them safe. So, this Valentine’s Day, we kicked off our new S.A.F.E. program by sharing the love!

    We asked our employees to nominate their local Volunteer Fire Department for a $2,500 donation from Peoples. All of the nominated Fire Departments were asked to explain how they would use that donation to continue to keep people safe. 

    Peoples narrowed those submissions down to four local Volunteer Fire Departments, and on Valentine’s Day, we posted a poll on our Twitter page and asked YOU to vote for the winner! The Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department was the winner, and received the first $2,500 donation from the Peoples S.A.F.E. Program.

  • Become an e-Smart First Responder

    If you're a First Responder, we encourage you to take a look at the e-SMART First Reponder website, a safety resource designed to help First Responders work safely in emergencies where gas utilities are involved. Firefighters, police officers, and EMTs are typically the first people on the scene of an emergency, and they face the greatest risk from natural gas leaks and fires.
