What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, an odor of gas, damaged lines, and carbon monoxide symptoms are all considered emergencies. If you have an emergency, call our emergency hotline at 1-800-400-4271 . Our personnel are ready to assist you 24/7. When in doubt, call us immediately.

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or lights, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call the Peoples emergency hotline.

Solar Power at Peoples

We’re utilizing solar energy to creatively solve operational needs.

When you think of a gas company, you probably don’t immediately think of solar power. But the truth is, as the energy industry grows, solar has been a great fit to help us overcome some specific operational challenges.

Currently we’re using solar technology to power remote telemetry equipment in the field. This equipment is located in rural locations where commercial electricity is not readily available. The equipment in these areas feeds critical information to our data systems. These systems then allow Peoples to monitor critical attributes, like the pressure and flow of the gas.

We’re also using solar powered equipment on remote automated valve actuators. This equipment allows for remote operations of valves in the field.

Both of these solar solutions are low maintenance and cost less than other alternative sources of power — like running commercial electric lines or gas-powered thermal electric generators.

The solar panels feed a battery bank, which is then used to power the equipment. The specific solar panels we use have guaranteed warranted performance for 25 years, making them a reliable option.

By utilizing renewable energy technology in these areas instead of relying on commercial electricity, this alternative power solution is just one way that Peoples is working to reduce our own carbon footprint.
