Emergency Hotline: 1.800.400.4271

24 hours a day / 7 days a week

What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, an odor of gas, damaged lines, and carbon monoxide symptoms are all considered emergencies. If you have an emergency, call our emergency hotline at 1-800-400-4271 . Our personnel are ready to assist you 24/7. When in doubt, call us immediately.

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or lights, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call the Peoples emergency hotline.

Peoples Adds Gas Theft Hotline

So far in 2018, we have discovered eight instances of natural gas being stolen from our system by people who have either tampered with our meters or bypassed them altogether. Not only is this a loss of revenue for our company, it can drive up the cost of natural gas for other customers. And, most important of all, it is a safety risk.

We have created a hotline number and email address to report instances of natural gas theft. If you see anything suspicious, please report it.

A rewards program is in place for information leading to a conviction, depending on the severity of the theft. If you choose, the hotline can be anonymous. We only need your contact information if there is a reward as a result of the information you provide.

What to look for:

  • Tampered meters
  • An installed bypass around a meter
  • Anything that doesn't look normal about a person's natural gas pipelines or meter
