The ice house at Dollar Energy Fund's Cool Down for Warmth fundraiser in Market Square, Pittsburgh
"I am proud to be participating in Dollar Energy Fund's Cool Down for Warmth event on Tuesday, January 31st. Help me reach my fundraising goal of $10,000 to assist local families with maintaining or restoring their utilities. Peoples Natural Gas, along with the other partnering utility companies, will generously match each donation made dollar-for-dollar.
While Pennsylvania has experienced a mild winter to date, the number of PA households that entered the winter without utility heat or unsafe heating sources hit a new record this year. The Public Utility Commission’s (PUC) annual Cold Weather Survey, based on reports from gas and electric utilities, “showed 24,175 occupied households without service or relying on unsafe sources in December, up from 12,124 in 2001.” This is the highest level in 14 years. Despite, or in light of, the statistics, Dollar Energy Fund is working harder than ever to provide utility assistance grants to families in need.
You can help us continue to provide crucial, immediate financial relief to families who are struggling to restore or maintain safe utility service. You can donate at any time via telephone, mail, or our website, or you can join us at the 2017 Cool Down for Warmth on January 31st and February 1st in Market Square. As part of Dollar Energy Fund’s goal to help local families maintain or restore their utilities, the non-profit organization has created a unique and exciting fundraising opportunity called Cool Down for Warmth. On January 31st and February 1st, 2017, a house of ice will be constructed in downtown Pittsburgh in Market Square. Willing participants will stay in the house until they have met their minimum fundraising goal of $1,000 for individuals or $2,500 for teams of two or more. All donations will receive a dollar-for-dollar match from our partnering utility companies, and 100% of the donations and matching funds will be used to provide utility assistance grants to local families in need, through Dollar Energy Fund’s Hardship Program.
No amount is too small! Every donation has a huge impact on the people in our region who need our help. Let's help to keep them safe and warm this winter. Please join me in supporting Dollar Energy Fund."
